Our new library building
Our new library building continues to take shape and create discussion. We are excited as we look forward to this new facility that will help cater for the skills required for learning in the 21st century.  Our school library is more than a storage space for books, resources and computers.  The major purpose of a school resource centre/library/information and learning centre is to assist students to achieve information literacy, to help them become lifelong independent and interdependent learners, informed decision makers and effective communicators. The new facility will be a stimulating flexible space that supports delivery of lessons as well as spaces in which students can apply learning, create, communicate and make decisions collaboratively.  The library will also support the love of reading for enjoyment and offer comfortable reading spaces as well as continue to facilitate student borrowing.

Student Concert

Last Thursday evening’s Student Concert was a very enjoyable and well-attended event, with a range of group and individual performances. A special thanks to Mr Hull and Ms Kimiia for organising and coordinating the event. Hopefully, this will open the door for more concerts to be held next year from our new hall thus  providing our very talented students with greater opportunities to showcase their skills.

Civics and Sustainability Excursion
Our Student Council has taken up an offer from our local Councillor, Nancy Lanskey, to host a special activity on Tuesday November 10 in National Recycling Week. The Student Council will visit the Cairns Regional Council Chambers for a tour and talk. Then they will travel and tour the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), the Transfer Station and Buyback Shop with the Council’s Water and Waste Education Officer, Marie Taylor. This activity complements the Student Council’s role in democratic decision-making as well as their action plans for waste management this year. Our school’s library is a collection centre for batteries, white paper, ink cartridges and mobile phones.
