Term 4 Swimming

Swimming lessons have commenced for students in Years 1-3. It is important that all students have paid and are participating in this program. The children are obviously very excited about a cool swim on a hot day and importantly, the lessons enable all students to develop the necessary water confidence and ability to swim expected of all young children.

Spooky Science for Six!

On Thursday 29th October Hambledon had a Science day for Year 6. It was AWESOME! First we made Halloween lanterns. Instead of using pumpkins we used potatoes. Mrs Townsend organised enough potatoes. Then we made swamp bombs using swamp water (acid) and a powder (base). When we shook the bag there was a chemical reaction. The bag was meant to pop, but it was too strong! Next we made water crystals. We put it in a bag, but my bag got so big I had to put into a bigger bag, then a jar, then a bigger bowl.  After that we made spiders out of bottle caps, wool, eyes and pipe cleaners. Last but not least we made spaghetti skeletons and swamp slime with glue, water, food colouring and borax. We learnt a lot about atoms, H2O,oxygen and carbon dioxide.            By Dana

Our new library building
Our new library building continues to take shape and create discussion. We are excited as we look forward to this new facility that will help cater for the skills required for learning in the 21st century.  Our school library is more than a storage space for books, resources and computers.  The major purpose of a school resource centre/library/information and learning centre is to assist students to achieve information literacy, to help them become lifelong independent and interdependent learners, informed decision makers and effective communicators. The new facility will be a stimulating flexible space that supports delivery of lessons as well as spaces in which students can apply learning, create, communicate and make decisions collaboratively.  The library will also support the love of reading for enjoyment and offer comfortable reading spaces as well as continue to facilitate student borrowing.
