Behaviour management

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

Hambledon State School prides itself on being a 'PB4L' school.  This means our behaviour management policies, procedures and actions are based on the Positive Behaviour for Learning framework.  At Hambledon, PB4L allows us to create a positive learning environment.

What is PB4L?

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) is an evidenced-based framework for designing teaching and learning environments comprising:

  • A focus on explicitly teaching and reinforcing an agreed set of positively-framed expectations

  • A focus on modifying contexts so that students are more likely to be successful in learning these expectations

  • A focus on framing behavioural success as the acquisition of skills, akin to learning and successfully demonstrating academic skills

Hambledon State School’s Positive Behaviour for Learning system aims to explicitly teach our students the behaviours that will help them meet our school wide expectations of being safe, being respectful and being a learner.

This means teaching what to do (what behaviour is necessary), when to do it (when the behaviour is needed) and how to do it (what the behaviour looks like and sounds like).

In a large school such as Hambledon SS, many issues arise from small, through to complex on a daily basis.  This is why we have introduced a PB4L lesson time slot for all classes to take place each Tuesday afternoon.  We believe that consistency across our school in all areas of curriculum, behaviour and positive recognition is a key to student success.  At the core of all of our work is the goal of every student achieving to their full potential.  Our teachers have utilised the Tuesday afternoon time slot to deliver quality lessons around Safety, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

More information about Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support can be found on the Education Queensland Positive Behaviour for Learning website.
